U15s LOSE OUT TO NEIGHBORS IN PLATE FINAL

U15 Imokilly A Summer League Plate Final Castlemartyr 01 - 04. Dungourney 02 - 06 On Wednesday evening we travelled to Aghavine, Ballymacoda to face our neighbours Dungourney in the final of the Imokilly Summer League. Only having played each other two weeks previously with Castlemartyr coming out on top confidence was high that we could repeat the feat. Dungourney had other ideas though, and as soon as the sliotar was thrown in it was clear that this would be a tougher contest. They were first out to the ball after every encounter and soon had our defence on the back foot with incessant pressure which had them 1 goal and 3 points ahead before we scored our first point in the 18th minute from a free expertly scored by Aisling Harty. Aisling Murphy and Shauna Horgan defended doggedly and more ball was finding its way to our forwards where Ciara Deane and Clodagh Mulhare were trying hard to break down Dungourney's defence. Another pointed free from Aisling Harty was quickly followed by a second goal from Dungourney which left the half time score, Castlemartyr 2 points, Dungourney 2 goals and 3 points. Although we trailed by 7 points we felt that if we increased our work rate in all parts of the field we could still prevail. Fresh legs were introduced and positions changed to try to get a foothold in this match. We started much stronger in the second half with both Aishlings taking command and it wasn't long before we had our reward when a shot from Aisling Harty found the back of the net, 5 minutes after the restart to put us back in the game. Kelsie Asamoah was proving a nuisance for Dungourney's defence and a number of shots were blocked on the line. Dungourney scored their first point of the second half before Aisling Harty converted 2 more frees to leave us trailing by 3 points with 6 minutes to go. Hannah McElhinney was replaced by Lucy due to an ankle injury. Dungourney redoubled their efforts and began bombarding our goals. Niamh Molloy and goal keeper Ellen Harty cleared ball after ball and forced a couple of shots wide but as the game entered the final stages Dungourney slotted over 2 more points to put the game beyond our reach. The final whistle blew to the devastation of our girls and Dungourney were crowned U15 A Imokilly Plate winners. Although we started slowly and some girls took a while to get into the game, by the end they all had given everything they had on the pitch and nothing more could have been asked of them. Well done to Dermot and to all 26 girls involved in this league campaign.
